Get the xWire client
Your friends list, chat, voice rooms, the in-game overlay and playtime tracking, in one desktop app. It already points at this network — install it, sign in with your xwire.us account, and you are online.
Windows · your system
Installing
Run the installer. It installs for your account only, so it doesn't need an administrator, and starts xWire when it's done.
The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may say it "protected your PC". Choose More info, then Run anyway.
macOS · your system
Installing
Pick Apple Silicon for an M-series Mac, Intel for an older one ( → About This Mac tells you). Unzip it and drag xWire into Applications.
xWire isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS blocks the first launch. Open
System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and choose Open Anyway.
Or, in Terminal: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/xWire.app
Voice chat asks for the microphone the first time. Screenshots and recording need Screen Recording under Privacy & Security; restart xWire after allowing it.
Linux · your system
Installing
.deb — sudo apt install ./xWire-*.deb, then open xWire from your app menu.
AppImage — chmod +x xWire-*.AppImage and run it.
On Ubuntu 24.04 and newer, if the AppImage closes straight away, start it with
--no-sandbox or use the .deb, which sets the sandbox up properly.
Game detection
Every version knows the built-in catalog of source ports and emulators (GZDoom, DOSBox, ScummVM, RetroArch and more). On Windows and macOS it also picks up anything started from a Steam, Epic, GOG or Xbox games folder; on Linux, Steam and Wine/Proton games. Anything else can be added from Settings → Games in the client.
Another server
The client connects to xwire.us out of the box. To use it with a different xWire server, choose Change server on the sign-in screen.
